Very simply put, it works in this way: through a sophisticated system of electronics, television provides the capability of converting an image (focused on a special photoconductive plate within a camera) into electronic impulses, which can be sent through a wire or cable. Television is more than just an electronic system, however. It is a means of expression, as well as a vehicle for communication, and as such becomes a powerful tool for reaching other human beings.

The field of television can be divided into two categories determined by its means of transmission. First, there is broadcast television, which reaches the masses through broad-based airwave transmission of television signals. Second, there is nonbroadcast television, which provides for the needs of individuals or specific interest groups through controlled transmission techniques.

That is why a teacher who wants to use it as a teaching tool should design such activities that would encourage students' curiosity, involve them in active viewing, etc.

第一步是热身活动（Warmingup）。热身活动是一种课前营造学习英语的氛围，引发学生学习英语动机的活动，我采用谈话形式开篇，带领学生将本单元学的内容进行了整体的回顾，逐步迈进今天崭新的课堂。

第二步就是呈现新知（Presentation）。这一部分根据教学情况的需要，又将它分成可几个小部分。首先，就是复习。由于每周才三节课，有的学生学完后把知识原原本本地都还给了老师，因此在呈现新知以前，我插入了一个复习部分。我很重视复习这个环节，这个部分在巩固已学知识的同时，也是在对他们进行一个小测试，可以清楚地了解到他们比较薄弱有待加强的地方。我在复习单词时通过猜猜看的游戏帮助了学生去运用英语。如：我在多媒体课件中，用图片、声音、动画等多种形式呈现出一些具体的电视节目，让学生通过看、听，来猜出这个电视节目的类型来，不仅有效地复习了节目类型的名称，也让学生能够正确运用和表达。通过这个游戏学生都很有兴致，很快地溶入到我设计好的教学情景中。

接下来呈现新知，我创设了恰当的情景，让学生在情景中感知语言并理解了语言，尝试去运用语言来表达出电视节目开始的时间。整个新授过程中，练习应该是占有非常重要的地位的，充分利用小组合作的练习方式，培养学生的合作与竞争意识，让学生在小组竞赛的形式中对所学知识进行了练习。
