故事发生在一个愚人节，美拉达在广场上卖艺，摇摆着曼妙的身姿，她有着美妙的歌声，令人着迷的舞姿，吸引了所有的人，他们被美拉达由内而外散发出的芬香所吸引，然而副教主克洛德也对她一见钟情，他让人人唾弃的，外表畸形的卡西莫多去抢走美拉达。
卡西罗多受克洛德指示，做了许多伤害美拉达的事。但在卡西莫多遭鞭打时，艾丝美拉达仍不计前嫌，将水送到卡西莫多的嘴边，她的美丽温柔与善良打动了卡西莫多，卡西莫多流下了热泪的同时也深深记住了美拉达。

在书中，那神奇的一波三折的故事情节使我深深的陶醉。丑陋的卡西莫多，“美”的化身爱斯美拉达，本来善良后来变为恶毒的副主教克洛德，命运坎坷的巴格特……这些人的性格在书中让作者表现的淋漓尽致。
巴格特夫人在爱斯美拉达小时候不慎把她给丢了，却得到了一个相貌丑陋的小怪孩，她便把这个小怪孩放在圣母院的弃婴床上，副主教克洛德收养了这个小怪孩，并取名叫卡西莫多。

前几天，我刚刚读完了法国大作家雨果写的《巴黎圣母院》，这本书让我懂得了一个道理。
它是一部悲剧，也是一部探讨人性的伟大著作。这本书里有有着高尚善良的人格，对无情的所爱之人始终痴心不改直到生命尽头的爱斯梅拉达。原本向善，清心寡欲，却因极致疯狂的爱情以致做下伤天害理之事的克洛德主教。还有有奇丑无比却善良纯真，肯为所爱之人献出一切的卡西莫多。
这个故事发生在中世纪的巴黎。故事的主角是一位在街头以卖艺为生的吉卜赛少女爱斯梅拉达。
爱斯梅拉达是一位能歌善舞的吉卜赛少女，由于从小被吉卜塞人偷走，在流浪艺人中长大。她在深夜被打劫时，被潇洒帅气的皇家卫队队长弗比斯英雄救美，两人便一见钟情地陷入爱河。当诗人甘果瓦即将被绞死的时，爱斯梅拉达毫不犹豫地以与他结婚的方式救下了他。当副主教克洛德利用种种卑劣手段想强迫爱斯梅拉达接受他的爱情时，她宁死不从。克洛德最后一次在绞刑架前让她选择时，尽管这时候她非常想活下去，但面对克洛德的求爱，她依旧回答了“不”。

还有另外两个特色人物让我印象深刻。一个是徒有华丽外表、内心却一包烂瓤的弗比斯队长，他外表英俊文雅，骨子里却粗鄙龌龊，原本已经有了未婚妻，但却因为垂涎爱斯梅拉达的美色，骗取了她的芳心;另一个人是落魄诗人甘果瓦，是一个为了生存可以抛弃爱情、尊严、责任的家伙。
《巴黎圣母院》这本书让我明白外表美丽不一定内心也如同外表一样美丽，只有内心美才是真的美。就像卡西莫多一样，虽然外表奇丑无比还跛脚，但是他的内心却是善良而美丽的。有些时候美与丑会相互转换，但是唯一不会改变的就是拥有一颗善良美丽的心灵。
