前，我在武汉郊区的一个职工医院里当护士，月薪220元。因为是职工医院，住院不要钱，所以住院的病人很多，工作很累。护士的工作是三班倒，生活很没有规律，自小体弱多病的我，完全适应不了这种上班模式，几乎每半年就要因植物神经功能紊乱而住一次院。
10年后的今天，我在武汉最繁华地带的一所大医院里当一个医生，月薪是10年前的10倍以上，工作轻松规律，不用倒班。身体也越来越好，连感冒都很少了。
这一切改变来自于我考上了研究生，从而改变了我的生活轨迹。
95年大学毕业，分到一个小医院，工作又忙又累，我努力做一个好护士，工作认真，对病人态度好，工作之余不断学习，参加医院的护理比赛，每次比赛都得了奖，但在工作和比赛中我突然感觉到护理前途的渺茫。工作很累，收入却是固定的220元，无论你做得多、还是做得少，做得好、还是做得差，工资是两年涨一次，每次几十元。比赛就是死背书，一本《基础护理》的书要将标点符号都背下来才能考好，尽管我每次都去参加比赛，但我不知道这种比赛有什么意义。
在我同事们的心里，当护士的前途就是做护士长、护理部主任，可一个科就一个护士长，一个医院也就一个护理部主任，并且我自己知道我是那种做事型，而不是管理型的人，所以这个前途对我没有吸引力。当我看到护士年龄大之后就去一些挂号、收费的位置上班之后，心理越发对自己的护理前途没信心了，工作累，加上心情有些抑郁，我不停的生病，几乎每半年就要住一次医院。这时，我开始思考我的未来：父母都是小县城里的普通医务人员，帮不了我，我一个人在武汉市，没有关系去换一个好的岗位，那么，最后一条路，就只能考研究生了。考研究生花不了多少钱，如果考上一个公费的研究生，读书也无须花钱，对一个没有存款的我来说，这很重要。
确定考研究生之后，眼前似乎有了一条光明大道，尽管当时仍然因病在住院，我的情绪好了很多，仿佛有无限的动力，每天忘我的看书学习。我读的是护理专业，而我准备考医生专业的研究生，厚厚的《内科学》、《外科学》都是没学过的，考研究生，我需要自学的书加起来有一尺多厚，有的地方，自学学不懂，我就坐车去汉口的一所医学院听课，上夜班，事情做完后，就开始看书，不浪费一点时间。因为不能确定自己能否考上，所以工作还是每天做好，不敢请假。一直到了考试前一个月，才请了20天的探亲假，回到老家一心一意的备考。
那真是一段难忘的日子，因为晚上看书的效果好，我是每天下午5点半起床，吃过晚饭、看完新闻联播后就开始看书，每两个小时看一门课，看完一门就立即换一门继续看，用看不同内容的书来达到脑子休息的目的，深夜12点，看书累了，就去厨房做点吃的。吃完继续看，一直学到第二天早晨7点，到街上吃完早点，回家睡觉。一直睡到下午5点半，开始新一天的学习。除了学习，脑海里什么都没有了，人仿佛在知识的海洋里遨游。
考完试的那天，下了大雪，在积满雪的'马路上，我兴高采列的冲回自己的宿舍，一点也不冷，我知道自己能考上。
分数出来后，果然考上了我填报的学校，离开那家小医院，在外地读完三年研究生，我顺利的分到我目前的单位。再次碰到原来医院的同事，说原来的医院搞改制，下岗了很多护士，病假多的护士先下岗，并且工资这10来年涨得不多，仍不到1000元。我很庆幸自己离开了原来的医院，否则现在的我也许是一个下岗的护士。
人生是一段一段的旅程，在这个开放的社会，提供了很多的机会，有时走的路不好，可以自己去走另一条路，感谢考研！
