Today it’s my great honor here, standing on the stage, to share my view points on “opportunity and challenge”.
The tempo(速度) of modern civilization has been much quickened in the last twenty years. While witnessing the dramatic changes in the better-off
society, people begin to reconsider the question of “survival”. “Survival” in the old sense does not bother us anymore. Instead, we are more concerned about how to “survive” in the human world full of competition.
Competition always carries abreast challenges and opportunities to
everyone involved. It might appear in an entrance exam, in a regular class, or in a small public speech. Those who fail to detect its real nature-whether an opportunity or a challenge a competition really is- will lose something more or leconducive to our growth. Of course, if we take the competition as an opportunity, we will favor it intentionally because they can help us outstand from the average; they will make us become the focus of public attention; they will grant us more chances and rights to succeed. As a matter of fact,
opportunities are supposed to be more perceptible and welcoming than
challenges. The truth is, however, we will lose more opportunities when we
choose to take the “opportunity” fork at the crossroads. The other fork, ignored by us and defined as “fearful challenges”, offers much more chances for the walker in competition. We have such an inclination(倾斜) in life to overestimate
ourselves and hold a thoughtleattitude towards the negative outlook of things.
We believe in the old saying, “Opportunity knocks but just once,” so we always welcome it and devote all our spirit and efforts to it. The most devout believer of this saying are the graduates. Why? There are quite a number of them who pay full attention to positions in big cities and are willing to flood into developed areas under any circumstances, even though there will be too much uncertainty for their choices. Innumerable cases go straight to the same miserable end: God seems to refuse to help too many of His worshipers.
In conclusion, to define the quality of competition seems to be far from valuable sense, for no matter what a competition is, an opportunity or a challenge, it will create nutritious elements for our growth.
So take a positive look at everything around. Keep our face to the sunshine, and we will not see the shadows.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Today the title of my speech is the present is my top concern.
Actually I got the assigned title just the day before yesterday. So, as you might imagine, I was so anxious about this speech contest at that moment. Because I’ve got no draft yet while I got only two days to prepare for my speech. So the main contradiction to me then was to make a draft. And I finally found out what I concerned most at that moment was just that moment itself.
We view our life as a long trip, and we each have an ideal destination. But some of us valued that destination so much that they missed the beauty alone the journey. Some of us valued that destination so much that they got afraid they fail to get there. But sooner or later, they will find out there’s no such a destination to arrive at once and for all. So why don’t we just cherish the moment right now instead of wasting time striving for a so called destination?
John Lennon once said life is what is happening while we are busy making other plans. However, cherishing the moment doesn’t mean we don’t even think about or make plans for the future. The truth is, we are not going to worry about the future. Cherishing the moment can just enable us to discover the beauty of life and enjoy the richneof life. And for my college life at present, I’d like to try to set foot in as many strange fields as possible; I’d like to make friends of all kinds; I’d like to do some work out to keep fit; and I’d like to do my best to help people in need. And I believe that is the ideal trip of my life; and I believe that is the very essence of life. Thank you very much.

First of all: Definitions of the opportunity and challenge.
So, what’s an opportunity? Opportunity is a time when a particular situation makes it possible to do or achieve something. It is not accomplish of our goal, it may be just a good begninning; it is not achievement of another seashore, it may be just the fair-weather on the day we set out; it is ont a matter of flowers, applause or success, it is a great chance which god provides us, helps us to realize our dreams, it is an advantage we won over for our success, it may be just a platform to show ourselves, maybe just a proper position. But if you are right at a window of an opportunity, “take it, seize it and make good use of it.” I believe in an old saying, “Opportunity knocks but just once”,everyone is longing for an opportunity, but once an opportunity goes by, cause of some objective or subjective reasons, they hesitate, thereby, time flies and opportunity is gone. It is too late when you realize this problem, but the opportunity never returns. So, when an opportunity comes, grab it tightly, and devote all our spirit and efforts to it. God seems to refuse to help too many of His worshipers.
Then, what about challenge? Challenge is a new or difficult task which test our ability and skill. It is not just hurdles on the way, it is the spirit of drawing sword; it is a chance to say “I can”, it is a fighter, a sense of courage, the fearless spirit towards all difficulties, it is the untamed spirit resourced from our deep inside. Many people are afraid of challenging or being challenged, worry about change, failure or other factors. But I think as a human, we should welcome challenging and as a man, we should welcome being challenged. We should be challenging, there are so many things arounds us which should be broken, such as the old, the stereotype, research fields and so on. The more challenging the better, the more challenging, the more chances we get to improve our world. Also we should enjoy being challenged. It is a world full of competitions, if you avoid it deliberately, you will fall behind very quickly. If you are challenged, first rule, don’t be frustrated. If you are right, it’s a victory for you and if you are wrong or say not perpect, it’s also an supplementary for you or your knowledge, you have also learned a lot of things. What did you lose! It’s a win-win strategy! Why feel frustrated? So, enjoy being challenged, it’s also a state of mind which make you to improve.
Secondly, what’s the relationship between the opportunity and challenge?
It’s obviously that these two themes always come along. No challenge,no opportunity, vice versa. Every Chinese people will never forget that during the 2008 summer Olympic games held in Beijing, eyes all over the world were focused on our country. Hosting the Olympics presents a range of opportunities, of coures, together with many challenges such as environment, international relations, urban development and so on. Another example, along with the opportunity, with the high speed of our country’s financial development, we meet with many challenges, say, severve problems such as inflation recently, high unemployment rate, medical insurance problems, etc. So these two themes always comes along, only by dealing with both of them properly can we develop continiously.
All in a word, hold the opportunity tightly, face the challenge bravely and adjust your state of mind, success is right at the corner!

there is one particular blue flower that has always caught my eye. i've noticed that it blooms only in the morning hours, the afternoon sun is too warm for it. every day for approximately two weeks, i see those beautiful flowers.
this spring, i started a wildflower garden in our yard. i can look out of the kitchen window while doing the dishes and see the flowers. i've often thought that those lovely blue flowers from the ditch would look great in that bed alongside other wildflowers. everyday i drove past the flowers thinking, “i'll stop on my way home and dig them.” “gee, i don't want to get my good clothes dirty...” whatever the reason, i never stopped to dig them. my husband even gave me a folding shovel one year for my trunk to be used for that expressed purpose.one day on my way home from work, i was saddened to see that the highway department had mowed the ditches and the pretty blue flowers were gone. i thought to myself, “way to go, you waited too long. you should have done it when you first saw them blooming this spring.”
a week ago we were shocked and saddened to learn that my oldest sister-in-law has a terminal brain tumor. she is 20 years older than my husband and unfortunately, because of age and distance, we haven't been as close as we all would have liked. i couldn't help but see the connection between the pretty blue flowers and the relationship between my husband's sister and us. i do believe that god has given us some time left to plant some wonderful memories that will bloom every year for us.
and yes, if i see the blue flowers again, you can bet i'll stop and transplant them to my wildflower garden.

同学们，让我们回头来看看她的成功。面对手持大学文凭的竞争对手，她没有自卑；面对挑剔刁难的老总，她从容应对；面对陌生而复杂的工作，她选择了从底层做起，再争取机会；事无巨细，她毫不挑拣；任务艰巨，她毫无怨言。而这些，难道不正是我们优秀的财职精神吗？
我到各个就业单位访问学生的时候，经常还会听到这样一些消息。在百联东方商厦就业的学生自豪地对我说，她们比那些学历高的同事工作更出色，待遇更好；在真维斯就业的女孩子，兴奋地说因为工作出色，
已经被领导定为培养对象；在通程大酒店工作的男孩子向我汇报，因为计算机技能水平突出，还当了一次单位员工的计算机培训教师……
