Good morning, everyone. The title of my speech is “What college education means to me”.
For me, college education is a marvelous ship-builder. With great vision, college education has equipped me, first with a powerful propeller--the knowledge in certain field and wide exposure to other disciplines. By devoting myself to my courses in the day and immersing myself in the world literature at night, I’ve amassed the driving force for the future and eiched my soul.
Besides, college education has also provided me with a precise compass--the sense of social responsibility. How can I best serve the public while achieving my self-fulfillmentMy one year’s experience as an English tutor has proved: to be valuable to society as well as to find my place, I have to possess some actual strength and the ability to function well in the most challenging situation. Amid the hectic schedule that balances club activities, sports, and academic courses, I feel the rhythm and beauty in my life, knowing that I ’m on the right way.
And more importantly, college education has set up not only single ships, but also fleets with common destinations. By interacting with friends of common beliefs, I’ve acquired skills of relating to other people.

In my early years, I did not see the value of education.
When I was going on thirteen, I started to run my own shop. From then on, I worked hard to bee a successful businessman.
One day I realized the importance of the English language in the business world and started taking night classes.
I was able to municate well with foreign customers after two years of English study. But I started to feel that, in the long run, having a limited knowledge of English was not enough to make my business successful. I knew that only a well- rounded education could guarantee my success in the future.
When I was eighteen, I had to make a decision to continue doing business or go back to school. There was one obstacle keeping me from getting an advanced education. I had only pleted elementary school up to that point. I then went back to senior high school after four months of tutoring in different subjects. Being at school for the first time after so many years was somewhat embarrassing because my classmates were at least two or three years younger than I. I concluded that my age did not matter. The important thing was getting into college.
I took the College Entrance Exams. Although my math exam result was only one point below the required score. I never gave up hope. The following year, I took it again and received the highest score in my city. Achieving such an amazing result gave me encouragement and courage necessary to continue my education to the next step.
I am now in my second year of college and know that it is never too late to learn. My passion for studying and improving myself will never e to a halt as long as I continue to live.
“Live and Learn.” is the motto I have adopted. I believe with an education I will succeed. So, if you are wondering whether education is important, don’t hesitate a moment to step up and seize the opportunity.

It is not an uncommon phenomenon that many people become successful without a formal college education, some typical examples of which are Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft; Li Jiacheng, a Hong Kong billionaire and Hua Luogeng, a world-class mathematician. This leads some people to believe that a person can achieve great success without a formal education and that the qualifications a successful person needs cannot be acquired through the study in university or other institutions of similar nature. It cannot be denied that there do exist such examples in every country; however, I can hardly share the above point of view for several reasons
In the first place, a college or university is a specialized institution of higher learning where people can receive systematic and scientific training in a certain field, which paves the way for(为...铺平道路) their future career. With the advent of the era of knowledge-based economy, a man without a sound academic background can hardly accomplish anything. Only in universities and other institutions of higher learning can he/she master the professional knowledge and relevant skills essential to his/her career.
Secondly, it is wise to learn at another man's cost. We can benifit much from the invaluable experience and knowledge handed down from our ancestors and draw a lesson from the failure of our predecessors so as to avoid detour.
Thirdly, when in university, one also has to learn to communicate and cooperate with teachers and fellow students, during which one cultivates friendship and acquires the interpersonal skills, both of which are conductive to one's future career and success. University is said to be a miniature society.
Last of all, there are innumerable successful people who attribute their achievements to a formal university education. It is no wonder that so many parents spare no efforts to send their children to colleges and universities.
From what I have mentioned above, it is obvious that we can acquire the qualifications and qualities essential to our future career and success through university education. The systematic knowledge and solid academic foundation will make it easy for us to understand and absorb new-developed theories based on previous research efforts; with the social skills we acquire in such a miniature society as university, we will not have to waste much time learning how to handle human relationship. Compared with those without formal university education, university graduates have already gained an upper hand(优势,上风,有利地位) at the very beginning of building their own career.

Children should begin their formal schooling at an early age ?
People have different views on what children should do at a very early age. Some think that children should begin their formal education and start to spend most of their time on studies. Others believe that it is still time for young children to play. Both views are based on respective ground.
Those who argue for the playing time for childern suggest that children at a very early age are still too young to focus their attention on learning. Their brain may not be ready for serious studies such as comprehension and memorizing learning materials. These people are partially right, for it is true that young childern can hardly concentrate. Their attention on one thing lasts for no longer than 15 minutes or so. But we can arrange classes for shorter periods, can’t we? And we can shift teaching subjects. Through putting them to study, young children are occupied with learnging but not with playing.
Those who argue for chilldren’s earyly commencement for formal education believe that being put to studies, children can develop good habit of studying, for the process of learning helps develop children’s mental abilities like the ability to memorize, the ability to understand and the ability to do simple calculation. Children’s habit of studying and love for learning are of great importance to youngsters because these two things set up the sound foundation for their future studies.
Having children start formal education at a very early age benefits young childern much more than simply letting them play most of their time. A good habits needs a long time to develop to become a second nature. More importantly, it is better to develop a good habit before a bad one may grow. Similarly, the love for learning should take toots for before the love for playing is established.

大家好，我叫董仲蠡，是一名英语培训师。我培训过的学员少说应该也有15万，我曾经教过考研全市第一的学生，每年听我的课而通过四六级的人数，那是不计其数。同学们都很信任我，爱戴我，叫我小董老师，我自己也特别喜欢这个称谓。
然而作为一名老师，我有的时候总有一些困惑，我讲的大多都是考试类的课程，大学英语四六级，考研英语等等。有一次我在讲四级翻译的时候，讲到林语堂先生如何翻译贾岛的“松下问童子，言师采药去”;讲到许渊冲先生如何翻译李清照的“寻寻觅觅，冷冷清清，凄凄惨惨戚戚”;讲到王佐良先生把Samuel Ullman的《青春》翻译成叫“年岁有加，并非垂老，理想丢弃，方堕暮年”,我不禁手舞足蹈，作为老师的那种自豪感爆棚。然而就在这个时候，底下有一个女生直接质问我说，你讲这个东西有什么用啊？能提分吗？你就是在浪费我们的时间。我自认也算伶牙俐齿，但是在那一刻我竟无言以对。
是啊，她说的对，没用，不能提分。但是，亲爱的同学我并没有在浪费你的时间，因为刚刚那一刻，我不是在教你怎么考试，我是在做教育！作为一名老师，一名教育工作者，我希望我在课堂上，所传授的不仅仅是实用的知识，因为如果单纯只是拼知识，拼记忆，我们已经输了！

人工智能，聪明过人；网络信息，知识过人；电脑反应，敏捷过人，我们现在已经听到了，有的家长有这样的言论，说你看现在这个语文历史网上信息都有，都能查得到根本就不用背，数学物理有人工智能根本也不用算，翻译软件越来越高级，外语也根本不用学。教育，还有啥用？教育，还有啥用啊！是啊，教育它到底还有啥用？
网上前段时间流行过一个段子，说我们之所以要多读书多受教育，就是因为当看到湖面上有一群鸟飞过的时候，我们能吟诵出，“落霞与孤鹜齐飞，秋水共长天一色”,而不是在那吵吵，我去，全都是鸟！当我们去戈壁旅游骑着骏马奔腾之时，心中默念着“大漠孤烟直，长河落日圆”,而不是在那喊，唉呀妈呀都是沙子，快回去吧！当然这是一种调侃， 但是不自觉间，就道出了教育的核心含义，教育不仅仅是传授给人以知识，更是提高个人的修为，增强我们对生命的感受力，从而更好地认知自己并且不断地提升自己，我认为这是教育的核心目的，也是指引我们前行的希望的明灯。
其实不仅仅是同学们，就我们老师也是一样的，因追逐名利而失去了自我，也开始变得浮躁。考试前我们押题，我们预测，考试之后我们又牵强地说我们押中了多少个题，有多少个同学因为自己的学习之后提高了多少分，营造出了一种老师高明，学生高超，家长高兴的其乐融融的假象。当年，我对研究考试技巧那也是乐此不疲，选项怎么选，同学们记好，三长一短选一短，三短一长选一长，齐头并进选2B,参差不齐选4D,对不对！同学们特别地买账，奉我为什么考神、偶像、人生导师。慢慢的，他们开始问我一些跟学习不直接相关的内容，老师我不太想工作，那个我看同学都去考研了，要不我也去考个研；老师我爸想让我出国，我妈有点担心，我自己也有点害怕，老师你说我是出国还是不出国；老师我本科学的是经济，硕士学的是环境工程，你说我毕业之后应该做什么样的工作……
老师，我以后应该做什么？这种迷茫已经成为了一种普遍的现象，我们教了十几年，学生学了十几年，你们竟然不知道自己要做什么。西方的先贤们早就提出过哲学的三大终极问题，我从哪来？我是谁？我要去哪？我们之所以不知道我们自己要做什么，就是因为我们不知道自己是谁，而这是教育的巨大缺失与悲哀。
自古强大的民族，都是重视教育的民族，以色列、德国、日本，这些国家的'教育，是我们全世界学习的典范。以色列小学就开设宗教课；在德国中学生哲学是必修课；我们去日本访问的时候，我们看到日本的大学生，除了要有繁重的学业之外，还要去参加茶道培训、艺术鉴赏这样的活动。我们同行的一位老师，当时就问了一个特别经典的问题，这有啥用啊？那个日本的老师非常的淡然，说，这些活动是教育的重要组成部分，是修心啊！才能更好地让同学们了解自己。是啊，不了解自己我们怎么可能知道我们将来要做什么，如果个人都不知道自己要做什么，国家与民族就更不知道自己要做什么，那怎么会有在战火中依然强大的以色列？怎么会有在二战的废墟之上崛起的德国与日本？
而我们的国家我们的民族更是如此啊，我们中国被称为文明古国，经千年颠沛而魂魄不散，历万种灾厄而总能重生，就是因为我们重视教育，我们尊师重道。早在我们文化的源起，就已经将孔子这位伟大的教育家，立为我们这个文化的精神图腾。而对于教育的执念，即便在最困苦的岁月，最艰难的日子里，总有人不抛弃，总有人把教育重新拾起、擦拭，奉还于我们的神坛！
曾经我们说，读书无用，才学与财富不成正比，造就了这个社会浮躁的状态，然而什么都可以浮躁，唯独教育不可以！教育是什么，教育是社会良心的底线，是人类灵魂的净土，是立国之本，是强国之基。教育有啥用？教育就是帮助我们个人认知自己，帮助这个民族认知自己，我们才有可能掌握个人的命运，并且创造这个国家的未来。我们作为教育者，作为受教育者，要始终谨记，教育、读书的终极目的：为天地立心，为生民立命，为往圣继绝学，为万世开太平！

But what kind of life is both significant and valuable? Answers to the questions are “If you cherish your value of your own life, you will create something valuable for the world.” Johann Goth said.
“The life value should be judged from his contribution rather than his profession.” Einstein said.
Lei Feng, a communist soldier, said, “one lives to make others a more beautiful life.” As we all know, Marx is an outstanding and great man.
He founded his brilliant and scientific theory of communism.
The theory guides the ways for the human being's liberation.
Marx said, “If we can elect one suitable profession, we won't be demoralized with its pressure, because we make sacrifice for human beings.
Only by this way will we not be addicted to the joy of narrow-minded and individualism.

She still continues to live on bravely.
All these are the strong of their life.
