打柴的武吉是一个孝子。
一天他到西岐城来卖柴。在南门，正赶上文王车驾路过。由于市井道窄，将柴担换肩时不知塌了一头，翻转扁担时把守门的军士王相耳门上打了一下，当即就打死了，被拿住来见文王。文王说：武吉既打死王相，理当抵命。命在南门地上画个圈做牢房，竖了根木头做狱吏，将武吉关了起来。
三天后，大夫散宜生路过南门，见武吉悲声痛哭，问他：杀人偿命，理所当然。你为什么要哭呢?武吉说：小人母亲七十岁了，她只有我一个孩子，小人也没有妻子，母老孤身，怕要被饿死了!散宜生入城进殿来见文王，说：不如先放武吉回家，等他办完赡养母亲的后事，再来抵偿王相之命。不知如何?文王准了，就让武吉回家去了。

One day, a man of the State of Chu was crossing a river by boat. Due to carelessness, his sword which hung at his side fell into the water. Not in the least worried, he slowly took out a small knife and cut a mark on the side of the boat.
一天，有个楚国人坐船过河，一不小心身上挂的宝剑掉进河坚去了。他一点儿也不着急，慢腾腾地拿出小刀，在船舷上刻了一个记号。
Someone on the boat asked him:
有人问他:
“Why don't you jump into the water at once to fish for your sword? What's the use of making this mark on the side of the boat?”

All the people returned to their homes, feeling angry.

”Once when I was passing the Zi River， I heard in my dream a man made of mud talking with a wooden puppet by the river bank。

`You were formerly a lump of earth， now made into a man of mud。 But if it rains and the water in the river rises， you will surely be damaged by the water。

The man made of mud replied：
泥人回答木偶说：
`If I were damaged by the water， I would not be afraid， but would only return to my original state and dissolve into earth。 But you？ You were carved from the peach tree in the garden。 If it rains heavily and the water in the river rises， you will be in no position to decide for yourself and can only float away with the river current。 Since you cannot decide for yourself， then you will never be able to return to your original place。“
‘我要是给水冲坏了，我也不怕，因为我只是回复了我的原状，化成泥土罢了。可是，你呢，你原来是用园里的`那株桃树雕出来的。要是天下起大雨来，河里涨了水，那时，你自己也做不得主，一定会随河水漂去。既然你自己做不得主，就决不能再回到原地方来了。”
After Meng Chang Jun heard this story of the conversation between the mud man and the wooden puppet， he changed his mind and decided not to go to the State of Qin。

Shortly afterwards, there came a Taoist priest. When he saw the situation, he felt offended and said:
不久，来了个道士，看见这种情形很是气恼，说：
”Our Taoist doctrine is the highest and unsurpassed. How can we condescend to allow the Taoist idol to be placed on the right of the Buddhist idol?“
“我们道教至高无上，怎么能让老君像屈居在佛像的右边呢？”
So the Taoist priest moved the Taoist idol to the left of the Buddhist idol at once.
于是，道士立刻动手把老君像搬到了佛像的左边。
Thus, the monk and the Taoist priest kept on moving the two idols right and left until the idols were broken into pieces in the end.
就这样，和尚跟道士不停地搬来搬去，最后竟将这两座泥像都搬碎了。
