Describe an interesting subject that you learnt in the school.
You should say:
What the subject was
What your teacher was like
How long you learnt this subject
and explain why you thought it was intersting
Describe a science that you are interested in.
I would like to talk about chemistry,a branch of physical science (自然科学) that studies the composition, structure, properties and change of matter (物质).
Chemistry is a compulsory course for third-year junior school students and for all senior high-school science students. I,of course, studied it since the last year in junior high school.
In high schools, most students are apt to learn chemistry by doing numerous quizzes, some even by rote (死记硬背).I,instead, took a unique approach. Before each class,I would get fully prepared;do my best to find the law(规律)of reaction among the atoms (原子),molecules(分子) or chemicals bonds(化学键) etc,and search relevant information online. Also,I watched videos of cutting-edge (尖端的) scientific discoveries and intriguing/compelling/scintillating (有趣的)stories of the scientists mentioned in the chapter I was going to study. Apart from those,I engrossed myself in chemical experiments,as long as I was available.
In my first Chemistry class,I was fascinated by the structures, shapes, colors, and smells of chemicals my teacher showed to the class. Ever since then, my passion/zest(极大的兴趣) for chemistry has been ignited. I very much wanted to delve into(钻研),and unveil the myth of (揭开神秘面纱),Chemistry.
Ok then, well the subject I’d like to talk about is Economics, because it was one of the few classes that I actually enjoyed, and this was in no small part due to the fact that we had a really great teacher for it.
And as for what makes me say that, well first of all, he had a knack of being able to make all of his classes really interesting, and he did this by always asking us questions and getting us to think deeply about all kinds of things related to Economics. So for example, he would often start class by telling us a story that was in some way connected to what we would be going through that day, after which he would then ask us how we thought the story ended, and this really kind of helped arouse our curiosity in the subject.
So that’s one thing, and another thing I liked about him was the fact that he seemed to take a genuine interest in all of us, and I could see this in the way he spoke and listened, because you know, it’s pretty easy to tell whether or not a teacher really cares about teaching, and with him I could tell straight away that he enjoyed teaching us and had our best interests at heart.
But anyway, as for how long I studied Economics for, well basically, it was for two years during high school, so it wasn’t really for all that long, which was a bit of a pity, because as I mentioned earlier, I really enjoyed the classes. And one more thing to mention about them, which I don’t think I’ve said yet, is that we hardly ever went through the text book, which was such a refreshing change from all the other classes I had. So instead, our teacher, who was called Mr. Guise, by the way, would give us things like newspaper clippings or magazine articles to read and discuss, and by doing this, we came to realize just how significant a role Economics played in our lives. So as you can imagine, this made the classes so much more fun than they otherwise would have been if we’d just ploughed through the text book, and I’m very grateful to Mr. Guise for this.
You should say:
What the lesson was about
Where you studied it
when you studied it
why you studied this lesson
The best English lesson i ever had took place in my sophomore year of college in my English class with Mr. Wang.
Every Monday, we would take about twenty minutes of class, and everyone had to stand up and say what they did over the weekend. The mini-speeches didn’t have to be long or that involved; rather, it was just an opportunity to get everyone up and speaking English. What made the activity fun, though, was not really the assignment. Instead, it was the class that made it interesting. The first couple Mondays, the speeches weren’t any thing special. Most were pretty boring, and the class had more of a “let’s just get this done attitude instead of an “I like Ibis activity” attitude. The third Monday, however, this all changed. One of the students stood up and told an extremely creative story, using a lot of interesting phrases and some truly funny vocabulary’. After this, the class all sort of accepted this as the new norm, and every week became a contest to see who could tell the funniest, most creative story. As a result, going to class on Monday became something to really look forward to.
In addition, the activity also really helped out our language ability. No longer were we just taking words and phrases out of the book, we were looking for other places, trying to be the most creative. Not only was it really fun, it also encouraged working harder!
I know from the beginning that the key to learn a language is to use it in an immersive atmosphere, and that is why i took this class. After so many years i am still a lone English language learner in a hope that one day i might truly command this hard language , without company of any language partner.partner. Luckily, I keep the habit i formed in that class alive, forcing myself into talking to myself for 5 minutes on a daily basis. it feels really good.

Describe a cafe you enjoyed
You should say:
what special features it has
what kind of food they offer
how often you go there
and explain why you enjoy going there
Ok right then, well the cafe that I’d like to talk to you about is one called Feibi Cafe, which is somewhere in the outskirts of the city, just a few minutes’ walk from where I live.
And as for how often I go there, well I actually go there quite a lot, probably something like once or twice a week. Having said that though, it really kind of depends how busy I am. I mean, there are times when I don’t go for weeks on end because I’m simply too busy with stuff, but normally that’s not the case, and I’m there pretty regularly, as I just mentioned.
Anyway, regarding what kind of things they serve there, well it’s great, because they’ve got a really good selection of both Chinese and Western food, so there’s a lot to choose from. And in terms of drinks, there’salso quite a lot on the menu, especially coffee, which you can probably imagine, what with it being a cafe and all. And I tend to normally always go for the Americano coffee, cos I think they do it really well, and so I’ve never really felt the need to try any of the other drinks on the menu.
But anyway, finally then, moving on to why I like this place so much, well I’d say it’s a combination of reasons, one of which would be that it’s really big and spacious, at least compared to most of the other cafes I’ve been to, so you never have to worry about not finding a place to sit. Although having said that, it can sometimes get pretty busy in the evenings, so I usually tend to go in the morning or afternoon. Anyway, another thing to mention would be that the food and drinks there are pretty good-value. Because I mean, most of the Western food there only costs between about 30 to 50 yuan, which is a lot cheaper than most of the other Western restuarants in the city. And the price of the coffee there is round about the same price as Starbuck’s, which some people might see as expensive, but considering the fact that you’re paying for the environment as well as the drink, I’d say it’s definitely worth it.
Oh and the other thing I really like about it is that you can spend as much time as you want relaxing there, without being bothered by the waiters. And the chairs there are nice and comfy, so it’s actually very easy to spend half the day there using the free wifi or doing whatever.
So yeah, I guess that’s about it!
Notes:
Having said that though =
Although having said that = 不过话又说回来
something like = about
normally that's not the case = 一般不说这个样子
go for = choose
what with it being a cafe and all = 毕竟是个咖啡店
round about the same price = 差不多一样价格
considering the fact that = 考虑到
Oh and ......
comfy = comfortable
nice and (adj.) = 如果你对这个事情很满意的话,这个形容词前面可以加一个“nice and...“ for example, ”the weather's nice and sunny today“ / ”my bedroom is nice and bright“ / ”the library is
Describe a popular swimming place.
what it looks like
what kinds of people swim there
why people like to swim there
Swimming is a very relaxing exercise. There are three swimming pools in my home town. One is in the Latitude Gym. Another one is in the City Club and the third one is in The J.C.T.Mill. Here I am going to talk about the JCT mill swimming pool. This is the best swimming pool in my hometown.
The pool is free for the employees of the mill and their families but outsiders need a special permission. This pool is situated inside the mill. It is very beautiful. It is very neat and clean. The water is filtered every week.
That is why most people like to go there instead of other places. I also go there with my friends during the summer vacations. There are 5 trainers who teach swimming. The fee for learning swimming is also very nominal. There are shower rooms for people to change and take bath later on
The pool has different depth levels on different sides. Beginners are only allowed the shallow side. The maximum depth of this pool is 16 feet
There is also diving facility. So, this is the swimming pool which I like the most.

◆What is your favorite season?
◆What is special about this season?
◆What do people usually do in this season?
◆Why do you like this season?
◆What is the worst weather you have experienced?
◆When did you experience it?
◆What did you see?
◆How did you feel under the worst condition?
Describe a Season Describe your favorite season. You should say: What your favorite season is. What is special about it. What people usually do in this season. And explain why you like this season.
My favorite season is summer. I can’t wait till it starts. Yes, it sometimes gets very hot and sultry. But I don’t care. At least I don’t have to fight with bulky overcoats or down coats.
Summer means life, blue skies, gentle breeze, white beaches, and green trees. I love the warmth, the plenty of sunshine it brings and the way people look in tan. In summer, girls wear cute skirts and lovely sunbonnets. All the beautiful colors go around in this season. And you can feel the longing to go outdoors and experience an adventure.
It is the ice cream season and it is the season of a variety of fruit, such as peaches, strawberries and watermelons. I love those after going swimming or hiking.
plus, it is also a time of great relaxation. You’ll always marvel at how much fun and entertainment can be squeezed into summer. There are summer vacations, swimming, surfing, picnics, fishing and boating. There is always something going on and there are always people enjoying nature. I love summertime because it is linked to most of my best memories and it never fails to trigger my passion in life.
eg:I think they will like to live in…(habitat)…where they rightly belong.
Coherence
eg:Is it important to you to eat healthy food?
I think to eat healthy food is to eat more vegetables, fruits and corns. That will be more expensive. But it is worth doing.
I think it is vital for me to eat healthy food. It can bring us energy and prevent us fromillness. I can pay more to eat healthy food. It is worth doing.
Lexical Resources
Describe an occasion when you wore your best clothes.
You should say:
When it happened
Where it happened
What kind of clothes you wore
And explain why you wore it
The last time I wore my best clothes was at a company annual dinner and gala. They’re really big occasions in my country, at least in my company. It was before the spring festival around the start of January, and it was held on a Thursday night. It took place in a big hotel just outside of the centre of the city. It was a grandiose occasion and a number of us from each department had rehearsed dance performances and comedy acts for the stage show. So, in fact, I dressed up twice, in my best long ball gown, and high heels, for the dinner, and in a sporty sort of dance outfit for the stage show. I enjoy dressing up in nice dresses and heels and things like this, and I think they really suit me. It’s nice to have these opportunities to wear one’s best clothes and for people to compliment you about how attractive you look etc! I think most people enjoy these kinds of occasions. On this occasion I was really happy because I’d spent a lot of time choosing the dress and a matching pair of heels and handbag. My friends also dressed up really smartly. The boys wore grey suits and ties and their best shoes, and everyone looked fantastic. This created a really cool atmosphere and I could tell that everyone felt proud to work in our company and enjoyed drinking and chatting and getting to know each other in a different context to the office in which we normally see each other.
Part3
1. Do you think people should wear formal clothes in the workplace?
I think that it depends on your type of work. We are not a client-facing company so we tend to dress quite casually in the office. If you work in a client-facing company, or in the service industry then maybe you have to dress in more formal clothes, or even a uniform, when in the office.
2. Why do some people like to wear traditional clothes?
There’s a rising trend nowadays of people starting to dress in traditional Chinese clothes, or hanfu. I am not sure if people do it for fun, or whether they want to hark back to their roots, but it can be quite nice to see people in traditional clothing. It helps us remember our roots and our past.
3. Do you think traditional clothes will disappear in the future?
No, I don’t. I think there will always be some people who like to wear traditional clothes that remind them of their cultural heritage. I think it’s becoming something people are a bit more aware of today than maybe a few years ago, even.
4. Do old people often change their dress style?
Usually old people stick to the same types and styles of clothes as they wore back in their time. There are some really hip and modern older people, however, that like to move with the times and wear more modern fashions, and some of them really look good. It depends on their personality, their background and how important they think it is to keep their finger on the pulse with trends and fashions.
Describe an experience when you changed your opinion.
You should say:
When it was
What your original choice was
Why you changed it
And explain how you felt about it
This is a curious question, because, in fact, there are a few times when I changed my opinion about things. The time that really sticks in mind is when I went to the USA on a trip. But, first, let me give you the background: most of my life I thought that American food was just fast food and junk food like burgers and fries and coca cola and things like this, perhaps also pizza and other similar types of food. I really thought that most westerners, and indeed Americans in particular, only really ate this kind of food – you know, that it was their main diet. Also, because so many Americans are so fat. Some are really enormous. I really was convinced that western food only really consisted of unhealthy burgers and fries and junk food. I think most of my friends and peers always thought the same, and maybe many of them still do. Well, anyway, I went to New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle on a month-long trip to the USA. In fact, it was a work trip - you see, I’m a computer programmer and I have a job with Baidu and I work part of the time in Shangdi, in Beijing, in the head office, and a few months a year in the US. Anyway, the time I’m talking about was my first trip to the USA. So, I went with this conception in my mind that the food would be all junk food and I was convinced about my opinion being correct. I’d never thought otherwise. It was to my great surprise when I arrived in New York City, that I found a lot of my American co-workers dining in a wide variety of restaurants and eateries. Not all fancy or expensive, either. I realized very quickly that there is a massive range of different foods in the USA, and most people don’t actually eat or order burgers and fries at all – or maybe only when they’re in a rush and need a quick take-out to go back to the office. Even in Grand Central Station there is an Oyster Bar and loads of seafood stalls and restaurants – I honestly couldn’t believe it! And that’s only a railway station! People were eating lobsters and salads and Israeli food and all sorts of middle eastern dishes that are really healthy too! Comparing that with the pot noodles and KFC at Beijing railway stations, I started to challenge my preconception about Americans and their attitude to food. I then realized that my idea that all Americans and all Westerners ate junk food, was a sweeping generalization. And, therefore, I changed my opinion.
Part3
1. Who do young people turn to for advice?
Are there any issues that people should be careful when giving advice?
When giving advice people should sometimes be quite careful. Firstly, they must consider the kind of advice they are giving and how the listener will feel about it. Not everyone enjoys getting advice, or even wants advice from others. Sometimes people don’t want to hear the advice you want to give them, and it can even upset or annoy them. So, you have to carefully consider the person you’re giving advice to and how they might receive the advice. Another issue is how you give the advice – this is where it’s important to learn to be diplomatic, to think carefully about the different perspectives that need to be considered, and make sure you deliver your advice in a careful way that will make the other person feel encouraged, rather than discouraged.
2. Do people like giving opinions on politics?
It depends what people you’re talking about. Usually, I think Chinese people, and perhaps Asians in general, don’t really talk about politics much at work, or in public. I think there is a tendency amongst Asian people to not want to raise issues of a very serious and possibly contentious nature in public, unless they are with close friends. However, when you look at Europeans and Americans, you find they very openly discuss politics in the office, over dinners, in public and everywhere, and often disagree with each other about their personal political stances and opinions. This seems to be more part of Western culture than ours.

Outdoor
Do you prefer to be indoors or outdoors?
I would prefer to engage in outdoor activities. Outdoor activities usually provide an avenue to interact with people in a more relaxed setting thus allowing for closer interaction.
Did you like to go outside when you were young?
Yes, I really liked to do some outdoor activities. When I was young, I used to get up early and leave the house and go wherever I wanted to go on my bike. There were no telephones, and my only rule was to be home by dark. Usually I got home by dark. If not, someone would go out looking for me.
Did you often go over to your friends' house when you were young?
Yes, we played video games a lot during summer vacation, cause it’s too hot to play sports outside.

Do you think it' s difficult to learn mathematics well?
Math is a very abstract subject, and for me, it is hard to relate math to real life. Also, math has a reputation of being an unpopular mix of difficult and boring, so I am not so excited to learn about math.
Are girls generally good at mathematics?
Overall there are only small differences in boys’ and girls’ math performance; those differences depend on the age and skill level of the student, what type of math they are attempting and how big of a dissimilarity is needed to say that boys’ and girls’ math performance is truly different.
Do you often use a calculator?
I used it a lot. I made too many dumb multiplication errors on practice tests to risk doing those calculations in my head/on paper for the actual test. It’s really personal preference though.

Do you think your city is clean or not?
It really depends on which part of the country or city you’re in. In commercial areas in Shanghai, the surroundings are just as clean as any city in the West. Where I live there are street cleaners, massive road cleaning machines, and also the occasional team of what seem to be migrant workers tasked with cleaning, de-weeding, and pruning a whole stretch of road or highway.
“lost for words”题型分别是:summary, 人名理论matching, yes/no/not given. “alternative medicine in Australia”题型分别是:multiple choices, yes/no/not given, 填空题.
Multiple Choice;
Short-answer questions;
Sentence Completion;
Notes, Summary or Table/Flow-chart Completion;
Labelling a Diagram;
Headings;
Locating Information;
Identification of Writer’s Views/Claims or of Information in a Text;
Classification;Matching
托福口语独立任务题(task1-2题):准备15秒,答题时间45秒;

Person
1. Parents
My mother is the person whom I admire most due to her so many good personalities like talented, tolerant and most of all, her spirit of dedication. First of all, she is such a talented person who not only has great achievements in her work, but also can cook delicious food for my dad and me. Furthermore, since she is well-educated, she can tolerate different opinions from varied people. And the most beautiful thing about her is that she has a beautiful mind. Thrifty as she is in the daily life, she saves the money and donates all of them to the people who may need them. The ways she does and thinks make me want to be the person like she is. That is why I think my mother is the person I admire most.
A good teacher should have the following personalities. First of all, a good teacher makes herself available to all students and she knows which students need extra assistance.
Furthermore, a good teacher is an effective communicator, who knows when she needs to change her communicating techniques to be sure students can grasp instructional
concepts. What is more, she would show her great ability when her students are making mistakes, she would let them know why they are wrong and how they are going to do to correct them, rather than simply punish them. For most students, a good teacher is also a helper who can lift them to new heights. Just like an old saying goes, “ GIVE ME A FISH AND I EAT FOR A DAY, TEACH ME TO FISH AND I EAT FOR A LIFE TIME”. This must be a philosophy of every good teacher.
3. Friends
A good friend should have the following personalities like trustworthy, helpful and
positive. First of all, a trustworthy person is someone whom I can rely on especially when I am in difficulty; he/she will be just a phone-call away to get me out of trouble. Secondly, he/she must be someone who can give me some suggestions when I lose my heart. I clearly remember last time I had a bad experience on my job, I was so sad during those period of time and my friend Nana just sat besides me and was such a good listener to support me and inspired me by saying that I deserved a second chance and never pushing myself too hard would be a better choice. After the nice conversation, I happened to realize I overcame those dark days with the encouragement she had given to me. Last, a good friend is someone who is positive. Though we always say “prepare for the worst and hope for the best”, we seldom do it when we face up with the worse situation. At this time, a positive friend has this power to make us believe that it is absolutely right to obey the rule.
In the end, I would like to quote a famous saying by Aristotle to end up my response. “What is a friend? A single soul in two bodies.”
4. Leader
A good leader should have these criteria:
1. Have a vision.
Effective leaders and their organizations have an agenda. A vision. A vision is a direction—an attractive and attainable picture of the future. As a leader, if you don't know where you are going, you are irrelevant to your followers. With a vision you can inspire and lift individuals and groups to new heights—an important function of any leader.
2. Seize opportunity.
Look for experiences that are new and different. Develop relationships with people who are different from the people you ordinarily have relationships with, especially those that come from different backgrounds and age groups.
3. Communication is key.
Be accessible to everyone in the organization. Companies need to realize that the old model of the leaders sitting on top of the pyramid and the managers executing orders does not work in today’s environment. The person at the top cannot be the only leader. There have to be various people within the company acting in this role. There are many companies stuck in a rut where the managers are waiting to be told what to do. That doesn’t work.
4. Be proactive.
Promote continuous exploration of yourself and other leaders within the organization. Be accountable for what you do. If there is an issue in the company, don’t say you didn’t know anything about it. Look at the organization and constantly ask what can be improved.
Event
1. Reading books
When I have time, I read books. My favorite book is the Old Man and the Sea which is written by Ernest Hemingway, one of the greatest American writers. The book told us a story about an old man called Diego who did fishing in Cuba. Though he came across lots of difficulties on the sea and came back without a single fish, he was optimistic and still held the hope. (Diego) is like a mirror which reflects what (Hemingway) wanted to tell all of us: Never give up and the final success will come right after the last try. I’ve stuck on that wisdom all the time ever since I read this book for that story makes me believe there is no stronger thing ever than a strong human belief.
2. Listening to the music
My favorite music is___, which is sung by___.
The reasons why I love that song are based on the following aspects. First of all, it relaxes my mind.
Second, I always have a greater efficiency after listening to music.
Third, by listening to the music, I can learn something about the rhythm, which teaches me how to balance complicated situation.
Last, enjoying all kinds of music, like rock n roll, punk or classic, I come to visit different world and learn how to appreciate arts.
Music is a worldwide language without any translation, by listening to the music; we can share our emotions with different people around the world.
3. Sports:
1. It relaxes my mind.
2. I have a greater efficiency on study after the outdoor activities.
3. Outdoor activities offer me not only more fresh air but also the chance to
embrace the nature.
4. I also meet some new friends when I am doing some activities, like playing
basketball.
4. Spring Festival:
In my country, the most impressive/memorable/popular/favorite/social celebration is Spring Festival, which is also called Chinese Lunar New Year.
On Spring Festival Eve, we Chinese people usually do a thorough cleaning for their houses to clean up all the ill-fortunes may have been in the family and make the way for the incoming good luck. In the evening, family members get together coming back from everywhere, make Jiaozi, dumplings boiled in the water, sit around the table, toast to each other, wish everybody good luck and health. After the feast, usually in the midnight, children will gather around to play fireworks to light up the sky. During the whole night, we usually stay up and make every light in our house on. The next morning, people will greet their relatives and friends usually face to face. When you eat rice glue ball, called yuanxiao in China, it means you come to the end of this great new year celebration.
Spring Festival means the whole world to Chinese people and we all consider it a chance for our family members reunion and gather best wishes for the coming year together.
5. My most embarrassing moment:
The most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me in school was when I was walking along the sidewalk back to school from getting some lunch. My eye caught a beautiful car and I lost sight of where I was going. Next thing I knew, BANG, I walked straight into a pole, hitting my whole head on it. I fell on the ground and my friends just laughed. Even though it was very embarrassing, it made our day 'cause we will never forget it. The days go by; I will still laugh as long as I remember it. But I don’t care about it anymore, sometimes, the embarrassing thing just puts smile on other people’s faces.
6. The most difficult moment:
The most difficult moment that I’ve ever had was when I prepared for the IBT. It became so hard for me since I’d never had a chance to talk in English for quite a long time. I could barely open my mouth; let alone, how to cover the whole test within the time limitation. I was rather upset and almost lost my heart. My friend Tom/Mary saw me one day and he/she inspired me by saying that if I couldn’t overcome that task, how could I survive in the States and make my dream come true. All of a sudden, I realized how small this task would be in the whole process of making my dream come true. And he/she suggested that I should make a well-organized plan to divide my goal into several little parts, which are attractive and attainable. And just like that, for the first time, I thought it was not that hard and I gradually had a faith in conquering this. Day by day, the more I practiced, the more confidence I gained.
7. Ambition:
I have always had a burning ambition to be a psychotherapist. I want to help people solve their emotional problems, recover from mental illnesses, and regain their self-confidence. An increasing number of people, under so much pressure at work, have been deeply depressed in recent years. Therefore, the role of a psychotherapist in keeping our society strong and healthy is getting more and more important. Being a highly self-motivated person, I feel confident about my ability to make my dream come true. As the well-known saying goes, “Where there's a will, there's a way.” I believe that I will become an outstanding psychotherapist some day.
8. Chances for the Volunteer for 2008 Olympics Or Shanghai Expo:
IF I’d ever had a chance to do something that I wish for, I would like to be a volunteer for Olympics held in China in 2008. First of all, it is a great honor to be part of this opportunity coming once or never. I can put my English fully into use. Being an interpreter, I can not only provide our foreign people the convenience in life but also let them know more about China. I am not saying that I want to wipe out some cultural barriers with
